The sudden adoption of collaboration and communication platforms and the associated changes in our data topography will have permanent implications on the workflows, technologies and best practices used in eDiscovery.  Join John Winkler and David Meadows of FTI Consulting for a presentation on these emerging platforms and ways we can modify our approach to traditional document review by incorporating data visualization and other strategies.

As a Director for FTI’s Technology segment, John Winkler partners with law firm and corporate clients to provide sound advice and best practices in connection with the management of electronically stored information for litigation and investigation. Leveraging over 20 years’ experience in the legal technology arena, Mr. Winkler works with clients to effectively reduce the proposed scope of discovery through industry leading technologies, and provides consultative expertise and solutions related to the identification, preservation, collection, analysis and production of electronically stored information.

David Meadows is a Senior Managing Director in FTI Technology’s E-discovery Consulting & Services and Digital Forensics & Investigations practices. He brings more than two decades of experience assisting clients with all aspects of technology and its use for e-discovery and forensic analytics in compliance, investigations and litigation. Current and past clients span domestic and global corporations in financial services, life sciences, communications, high technology, energy and mining industries, for which he has provided expertise in advanced data analytics and computer forensics.

Industry experts will discuss the technical challenges and logistics associated with today’s collections, the legal steps and potential pitfalls for counsel to consider, and the strategies that corporations, their IT staff and their counsel need to take in order to handle these challenges. The panel will address defensible collections including but not limited to Microsoft Purview, Google and cell phones, remote and targeted collections.

Brett Burney is Principal at Burney Consultants LLC. Always anxious to encourage legal professionals to take better advantage of the technology available to them, Brett helps law firms and corporate legal departments successfully overcome their e-discovery challenges. He regularly writes for Legaltech News and ABA publications, and authored the eDiscovery Buyers Guide (www.ediscoverybuyersguide.com). Prior to establishing Burney Consultants LLC, Brett spent over 5 years at the law firm of Thompson Hine LLP where he worked with litigation teams in building document databases, counseling on electronic discovery issues, and supporting them at trial. In 2015, Brett Burney served as Chair of the Planning Board for the annual ABA TECHSHOW (www.techshow.com). Brett is the author of the ABA-published book “Macs in Law: The Definitive Guide for the Mac-Curious, Windows-Using Attorney” (www.macsinlawbook.com) and also posts on the popular Apps in Law blog (www.appsinlaw.com) and co-hosts the weekly In the News podcast (www.inthenewspodcast.com).

Andrew Keck, Chief Technology Officer, is a Co-Founder and Equity Partner of ProFile Discovery, a litigation support company based in Columbus, Ohio. Developing and leading the electronic discovery practice for ProFile Discovery for the last twelve years and has over eighteen years working in the litigation support profession, a back ground in electronic discovery, and holds a MS in Cybersecurity. He continues to serve as an expert witness for court cases involving forensics and other technical issues with complex IT infrastructures.

Tony Petruzzi is the Chair of the eDiscovery Group at Tucker Ellis LLP and an active member of The Sedona Conference, Working Group 1 (electronic document retention and production working group). He is a frequently speaker on areas of eDiscovery, both locally and nationally. He is also a member of the Business Litigation Group focusing his practice in the areas of white collar criminal defense, corporate investigations, and business litigation. The nature of Tony’s practice requires extensive experience and knowledge related to eDiscovery. He frequently advises and works with clients on eDiscovery issues when responding to subpoenas and discovery requests and in conducting internal investigations. Tony provides services and counsels clients in all areas of eDiscovery, including preservation of ESI, drafting ESI Protocols and conducting custodial interviews, as well as managing the collection, review and production of ESI for small litigations, complex litigations and white collar cases.

Mike McDonald is a Senior Litigation Support Coordinator at Baker Hostetler. In the 20+ years he has been working in law firms, 13 of those years have been dedicated to eDiscovery consulting and litigation support. He has extensive experience assisting clients and legal teams with data identification and preservation, managing data through the processing phase, and managing complex document reviews and productions. While technically adept, Mike believes the most valuable tools for an eDiscovery professional are effective communication skills, critical but positive thinking, and team/relationship building.
